Leon Balogun Eager to Prolong Stay at Rangers

Leon Balogun, defender for Rangers, is optimistic about receiving his contract extension at the Scottish Premiership team.

The Nigerian was released by Queens Park Rangers, a team in the Sky Bet Championship, and returned to the Light Blues on a one-year deal last summer.

Balogun started for Rangers for the first time since February during last Sunday’s Scottish Cup semifinal win over Heart.

Manager Philippe Clement commended the 35-year-old for his outstanding effort in the match.

The center defender is eager to stay at Ibrox because his contract is set to expire at the end of June.

“I hope so. Have there been talks about my future? Not yet. I don’t know what will happen. I think those decisions will be made within the club within the next few weeks,” Balogun was quoted by the Daily Record.

“I hope I get a notification a bit more timely than the last time around! I would like to think I can be quite positive, touching on the manager choosing me on Sunday, but I can’t really tell you, I don’t know yet.”

This season, Balogun has made 16 appearances for the Light Blues in all competitions.

Bologna is rumored to be asking a hefty €60 million [£51.3 million] for the young forward, who signed a contract with Bayern Munich in August 2022 for €8.5 million [£7.1 million].

EPL: Ten Hag Reveals He Requested Harry Kane But Man Utd Signed Hojlund Instead

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, has disclosed that he had hoped to sign Harry Kane for the team last summer, but Rasmus Hojlund was signed instead.

Hojlund has made 26 league appearances in his first season at Old Trafford, scoring eight goals, while Kane has scored 35 goals in 31 Bundesliga outings for Bayern.

“We have had some choices made with talents like Rasmus Hojlund.

“I can see a striker who already proved it, who we want to sign and we couldn’t get him. And then we went to Rasmus because he’s a talent,” Ten Hag said during an interview with Gary Neville for Sky Sports.

When questioned directly if he was referring to Kane, Ten Hag said, “Yes, and you know Harry Kane will get you 30 goals.”

“I think Rasmus will get there, but he needs time. It’s not fair to assess him the same as Harry Kane. I would never compare two players because they are very different.”
