Nnamdi Kanu's Appeal Denied: Court Rules in Favor of Police and DSS on Unlawful Arrest and Detention Case

Two social media users have been summoned by the Chief Magistrate Court, Wuse Zone 6, for the “criminal defamation” of socialite Dorcas Adeyinka.

Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna has directed the two defendants, Tolulope Adeoye, also known as Abike Jagaban, and Tolulope Odegbami, also known as Olowosibi, to appear in person before the court on June 4, 2024, to respond to the charges brought against them by the complainant. This directive is contained in the court summons dated May 9, 2024, which our correspondent was able to view.

The complainant accused the defendants of posting her naked photo on social media and making fun of her in a criminal complaint filed by the complainants’ attorneys, led by Pelumi Olajengbesi of the Abuja-based law company, Law Corridor.

On the 5th of March 2022, Abike Jagaban shared the complainant’s nude pictures on Youtube, directing her followers to different online platfoms where the complainant’s pictures were/are shared and ridiculed the complainant in the process.

“The video is captioned: ‘Abike Jagaban on Dorcas Adeyinka, aka TMS Blog’.

Because of these activities, the complaint has been subjected to disdain, hostility, and detestation, as some individuals have been observed mocking the complainant in the post’s comment section.

In a different video titled “How Abike Jagaban Bully Dorcas Adeyinka,” Abike Jagaban is shown bullying the complainant as well.

Additionally, the defendants have posted articles on social media claiming that the complainant is to blame for the passing of Folusho Asimiyu, popularly known as “Iya Ibeji,” a person the complainant had previously provided financial support for through her non-governmental organization.

A portion of the lawsuit stated, “These accusations have been made without any proof or connection linking the complainant to Folunsho Asimiyu’s demise.”

According to the complainant, the defendants’ purported acts violated Section 391 of the Penal Code and amounted to criminal defamation.

Magistrate Iyanna directed the complainant in Suit No. CR/93/2024 with Motion No. MN/140/2024 to use their social media handles or pages, @Tolulope Omolara Ghaba (Favebook) and @Princess Tolulope Ajike Olowosibi (Facebook), to serve the defendants with the criminal summons and all other subsequent processes of the court.

He ruled that the two defendants must appear in court on June 4, 2024, the day he had postponed the case.

Students Kidnapped as Bandits Raids Kogi University

On Thursday evening, bandits broke into the Confluence University of Science and Technology, also known as CUSTEC, located in Osara, Okene, Kogi State, and took several students hostage.

The robbers ambushed the institution about 9:00 p.m., according to an eyewitness, when the students were studying for their impending exams, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.

According to the informant, the bandits entered three lecture halls via the bush and started shooting into the air to frighten the pupils.

“They trapped the students inside the halls and started taking them; the school was thrown into total confusion as fear-stricken students in other halls scurried to safety, scampering in various directions.

“By the time local security guards and the conventional security men at the gate engaged the bandits, they had already succeeded in abducting some students.

“But the efforts minimised the damage as the attackers didn’t go beyond the first three halls,” the source said.

The source claims that when the bandits attacked, the students were getting ready for their first semester exam, which was scheduled to start on Monday, May 13.

A student who was desperate to remain anonymous claimed that he went to the bush with a few others and hid there for “more than an hour.”

We only ventured out when everywhere became quiet,” he said.

Prof. Abdulraman Asipita, the vice chancellor of CUSTEC, acknowledged the event when he was reached but would not disclose the exact number of students taken hostage.

“I don’t talk to journalists about incidents like this, but I want you to know that we are on top of the situation,” he said.

It was unsuccessful to get in touch with Mr. Bethrand Onuoha, the Kogi Commissioner of Police.

Retired Cdre Jerry Omodara, the State Security Advisor, was similarly unreachable for comment when calls to his number went ignored.
