Taliban Court Sentences Two Men to 30 Lashings for Robbery
The Taliban Supreme Court declared on Tuesday that two individuals who were accused of robbery had been publicly whipped by a court in the province of Kapisa in northeastern Afghanistan.
According to the Supreme Court, each convicted person (name withheld) was given thirty lashes. Furthermore, two prisoners received sentences of one and a half years and three years, respectively.

The complaint further stated that citizens and court officials saw the whippings.
Since the Taliban took back control of Afghanistan, public punishments for a variety of crimes, including robbery, adultery, and murder, have been reinstated, including whipping and execution.
Five people found guilty of murder have been publicly killed by Taliban tribunals since August 2021.
Despite opposition from human rights organizations, Taliban representatives insisted that enforcing strict Islamic law, or sharia, is necessary to lower crime rates and maintain public safety.

Police Investigate Death of Benue Woman at Abuja Bridge
The unknown death of a young woman in Abuja identified as Kadoon Luisa Iornumbe has prompted a murder investigation by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command.
It was said that drivers in the Mpape neighborhood of the country’s capital found Luisa’s lifeless body at the Timper Garage bridge.
The tragic event happened early on Thursday morning as the deceased was making her way to her place of employment.

Eyewitnesses claim that the one-chance robbers who have been wreaking havoc in the nation’s capital city killed Luisa, an indigenous of Benue State.
The Command was informed of the development, according to SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, who was called.
She claimed that in order to determine the incident’s remote cause, Benneth Igweh, the Commissioner of Police, had “directed the DC CID to conduct a discreet investigation.”

Ex-Bank Manager Sentenced to 121 Years for N112m Fraud
Nwachukwu Placidus, the former manager of First City Monument Bank’s FCMB branch in Onitsha, has been sentenced to a total of 121 years in prison for plundering a customer’s fixed deposit funds totaling N112,100,000 (one hundred and twelve million, one hundred thousand naira only) for his own use.
Following Placidus’ arraignment by the Enugu Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC, on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, Justice S. N. Odili of the Anambra State High Court, located in Onitsha, rendered the decision on Friday.

In a statement released on Saturday, EFCC Spokesperson Dele Oyewale disclosed that the convict was charged with sixteen counts, including forgery, theft, acquiring by false pretense, and uttering.
One of the counts reads: ‘Nwachukwu Placidus between February 2009 and November 2014 in Onitsha, Anambra State within the jurisdiction of the Anambra State High Court of Nigeria with intent to defraud obtained the sum of (N112,100,000) One Hundred and Twelve Million, One Hundred Thousand Naira only, from Idemili Microfinance Bank under the false pretence that you have placed the said money in a fixed deposit account with First City Monument Bank PLC for it, which pretence you knew to be false and you thereby committed an offence.
“He pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to him, thus setting the stage for his trial.
“In the course of trial, the EFCC, through its counsel, Mainforce Adaka Ekwu presented four witnesses and tendered several relevant documents which were admitted in evidence.
“In his judgment, Justice Odili held that “the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt” and sentenced the convict to nine years imprisonment on count 3, 4 years on count 4 and 9 years on counts 5 to 16 respectively. He was discharged on counts 1 and 2. The sentences shall run concurrently.
“The court further ordered the convict to restitute the said sum to his victim, Idemili Microfinance Bank.
“Placidus ’journey to the Correctional Centre began when a petitioner , Idemili Microfinance Bank LTD, alleged that the sum of N112, 100, 000 was handed over to him as the branch manager of FCMB in Onitsha, for fixed deposit. However, when the petitioner approached the bank to terminate and withdraw the deposit, the bank denied receiving the said funds.
“Upon receipt of the petition, the EFCC swung into action and investigations revealed that the convict diverted the money for his own use and issued a fake fixed Deposit Certificate to the petitioner.”

Two Police Officers Arrested for Kidnapping Minors in Sokoto
The arrest of several of its employees who were allegedly involved in the kidnapping of youngsters in the state has been confirmed by the Sokoto State Police Command.
The command has started looking into the claims of five state-abducted children, according to ASP Ahmad Rufai, the command’s spokesman, who also verified the arrest of two officers, one called Elizabeth and the other simply known as ASP Kulu.
Remember that the FCT police command arrested ASP Kulu, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, and Elizabeth, her accomplice, for allegedly kidnapping five children in the state, including a baby girl who was less than two weeks old.

Rufai said, “Both the suspects and victims were transferred and handed over to the command from FCT police command for further investigation into the matter.”
Three toddlers under the age of two and Asmau Ya’u, a five-year-old who was allegedly seized en route to an Islamiyya school in Sokoto, were among those taken captive.
The defendants were reportedly taken into custody while riding an 18-seater commercial bus from Sokoto to Abuja.
The passengers reportedly saw that the children’s guardians were unable to breastfeed the youngsters during the seven-hour ride, and they reported this to the police when they were close to Abuja.
According to Sirajo Madawaki, a state representative of the Human Rights Network, the issue was moved from Abuja to the network office in the state, and an inquiry was thereafter launched.
Madawaki pledged that the network would see the case through to its natural end, punish the offenders, and arrange for the children to be reunited with their parents.
Prior to her journey to Sokoto, the suspect, ASP Kulu, who was allegedly stationed with the Kubwa Division, requested leave, but it had not been approved.
