The victims of the tanker explosion on Eleme Road in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, last week have received the sympathies of the House of Representatives’ Rivers delegation.
This is what Representative Dumnamene Dekor (PDP-Rivers), the caucus leader, said in a statement on Monday.
The parliamentarians expressed their sorrow for the destruction the fire had caused.

“As true representatives of our people, we express deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those affected by the tragic inferno.
“Our heart aches for the lives lost and the profound grief that now engulfs our dear Rivers.
“This tragic fire incident should rightly shake our people to their cores, considering the magnitude of losses; and we stand in solidarity with those who are mourning the loss of their loved ones.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with each and every individual impacted by this tragedy,” he said.
Dekor called on philanthropists and other Nigerians to lend a helping hand to those affected by providing whatever assistance is possible to them.
The lawmaker urged Nigerians to use the moment to reflect on the importance of safety measures and prevention strategies to avoid such tragedies in the future.
Recall that a few days ago, four people and more than seventy vehicles were reported to have been destroyed in Friday’s fuel tanker explosion in the state, according to the Rivers Police Command.

Around 7:30 p.m., an explosion happened along the Eleme stretch of the East-West Road in the state.
The tragedy happened as a result of a collision between a heavy-duty truck and a tanker carrying gasoline, according to Grace Iringe-Koko, the command’s spokesperson, who talked with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt on Saturday.
There were several burned-out cars and burned victim corpses on the road, according to a NAN correspondent who was on the scene.
The event took place approximately 10 kilometers from the Port Harcourt Refinery and a few meters from the Indorama Petrochemical Company.

Nigerian Govt Is Not Addressing Artificial Fuel Scarcity and Insecurity – CLO
The Federal Government did not go far enough, according to the Civil Liberties Organization (CLO) on Thursday in Akwa Ibom State, to bring down the fraudulent actions of fuel marketers, which have kept gas prices high in various regions of the nation.
Additionally, it demanded that the Akwa Ibom State Government and the National Youth Service Corps, or NYSC, management step up efforts to guarantee the release of the remaining Corps members who are being held captive in Zamfara State by kidnappers.

Following the organization’s monthly meeting, the state chairman, Barr Godknows Njoku, and vice chairman, Comrade Eridiong Obong, signed a statement describing the marketers’ actions as economic sabotage.
The statement expressed regret over the Federal Government’s apparent lack of commitment to regulating the actions of middlemen and other downstream sector operators.
It further stated that this has resulted in marketers manipulating the legal system by inventing circumstances to drive up the price of the commodity.
CLO claims that if the situation is allowed to worsen, Nigerians may experience even more agony, and their already impoverished and suffering populace may take to the streets in large numbers.
It said it was a disgrace to the nation that the kidnappers of the prospective NYSC members from Akwa Ibom were still holding them captive in Zamfara, more than a year after they were kidnapped, and it urged security services and the state government of Akwa Ibom to step up their efforts to swiftly free the remaining hostages.
The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) recently announced new rules addressing Point of Sale (POS) operator registration. The CLO claimed that these guidelines were inappropriate and insensitive, and they called on the federal government to halt the activity and permit the current regulations with banks.
It went on to say that any additional fees imposed on the operators will just make matters worse for Nigerians by raising the already excessive withdrawal fees.
With current government policies already choking the downtrodden, the organization labeled the latest regulations released by CAC as insensitive and an additional attempt to mistreat poor Nigerians who have kept continuing to get poorer due to the poor handling and leadership of the economy by successive federal administrations.
