Cristiano Ronaldo Faces Suspension for Alleged Obscene Gesture in Al Nassr’s Thrilling Victory Against Al Shabab
The Disciplinary and Ethics Committee of the Saudi Football Federation (SAFF) declared on Wednesday that Cristiano Ronaldo would be out of one match due to an alleged obscene gesture made after Al Nassr’s 3-2 victory over Al Shabab.
Social media footage of Ronaldo cupping his ear and repeatedly pounding his pelvic area after the final whistle on Sunday appeared to be directed at Al Shabab supporters, his rivals.
Chants of “Messi” could be heard in the background, referencing Ronaldo and the Argentine player’s long-standing rivalry in football.
Following an incident in which he seemed to make an aggressive gesture following Al Nassr’s 3-2 victory against Al Shabab, Cristiano Ronaldo has been suspended for one match, the Saudi Football Federation’s (SAFF) Disciplinary and Ethics Committee stated on Wednesday.
After the game on Sunday, there were videos on social media showing Ronaldo holding his ear and constantly pointing to his lower abdomen, which appeared to be directed at Al Shabab supporters, who were the opposition.
Chants of “Messi” could be heard in the background, referring to Ronaldo’s old rival from Argentina in football.
The committee ordered the Portuguese player to reimburse the Saudi Football Federation and Al-Shabab for the costs used in bringing the complaint, with the former receiving a fine of 10,000 Saudi riyals ($2,666).
The committee further stressed that there is no right of appeal and that the verdict is final. This event follows another similar one in April of last year, when the 39-year-old Ronaldo was reportedly observed making a similar gesture on his way to the dugout following a league match between Al Hilal and Al Nassr that resulted in a 2-0 loss for Al Nassr.
Joshua Zirkzee, the standout striker for Bologna, is a target for Inter Milan Vice-President Javier Zanetti’s team, and Arsenal may face competition from the Serie A winners for his services during the summer transfer window.
With 11 goals and four assists this season, Zirkzee has been one of Bologna’s best players, aiding his team’s quest for Champions League qualifying.
Bologna is rumored to be asking a hefty €60 million [£51.3 million] for the young forward, who signed a contract with Bayern Munich in August 2022 for €8.5 million [£7.1 million].

The 22-year-old was praised by Zanetti as “a young, talented, intelligent, physically very strong player” and believes that he could be a valuable addition to a team looking to achieve great things.
When asked about a potential move for Zirkzee, Zanetti told Radio TV Serie A: ‘”Zirkzee is a great champion.
“We are talking about a young, talented, intelligent, physically very strong player.
“Someone like that would be useful to any great team aiming for important goals.
“Let’s see… if the opportunity arises we can think about it.
“With Zirkzee, Lautaro [Martinez] and [Marcus] Thuram we would have a young and strong attack. They would give us peace of mind.”
Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, has disclosed that he had hoped to sign Harry Kane for the team last summer, but Rasmus Hojlund was signed instead.
Hojlund left Atalanta for United in a £72 million transaction, while Kane paid £100 million to move from Tottenham to Bayern Munich.
Hojlund has made 26 league appearances in his first season at Old Trafford, scoring eight goals, while Kane has scored 35 goals in 31 Bundesliga outings for Bayern.

“We have had some choices made with talents like Rasmus Hojlund.
“I can see a striker who already proved it, who we want to sign and we couldn’t get him. And then we went to Rasmus because he’s a talent,” Ten Hag said during an interview with Gary Neville for Sky Sports.
When questioned directly if he was referring to Kane, Ten Hag said, “Yes, and you know Harry Kane will get you 30 goals.”
“I think Rasmus will get there, but he needs time. It’s not fair to assess him the same as Harry Kane. I would never compare two players because they are very different.”
